The Ferry Inn | Stone-in-Oxney

A conservation-led extension that enriches a historic pub through refined detailing and respectful design.

Set on the edge of the Romney Marshes, The Ferry Inn is a Grade II listed public house rich in character and closely tied to its rural landscape. The project introduces a carefully crafted extension housing a new dining room and commercial kitchen, designed to sit in quiet dialogue with the historic building through sensitive massing, proportion, and material expression.

A conservation-led approach guided the design process — from the selection of traditional materials to the refinement of junctions and details — ensuring the new addition enhances the listed structure rather than competing with it.

Our role encompassed securing Listed Building Consent, developing a comprehensive Building Regulations package, and providing ongoing technical coordination and on-site assistance to ensure the design was delivered faithfully and with precision.
