Our Design Process
Successful built outcomes are the result of a collaborative relationship with our clients — exploring their needs, and testing forms, materials, and arrangements.
Each project is unique. We bring our knowledge and experience to deliver proposals that are both thoughtful and realistic, responding to the specific context of the site and budget.
Developing or extending a building is a significant investment of our clients’ time and finances. We ensure they remain fully informed throughout the process. As a studio, we are committed to creating buildings that are considered and carefully crafted.
We see every project as an opportunity to realise our clients’ ideas — while also offering alternative perspectives they may not have considered.
Meeting
When we meet with you, we will discuss what you wish to achieve from the proposed works. This will be based around what works for your way of living & what is important to you as well as the budget you are working with.
This information will allow us to develop a brief to address & meet your needs, as well as foreseeing any specific constraints to be considered from the initial concepts & feasibility studies.
Feasibility
Feasibility studies are illustrative to demonstrate ideas quickly, considering different approaches of how they fulfil the brief.
At this stage cost consultants can be appointed to advise on costs to deliver the completed project. Cost certainty & maintaining communication throughout the process is an important aspect to deliver a successful project.
Planning
On finalisation of the design the required drawings & accompanying document pack is prepared & submitted to the local authority. Dependant on the scope & scale of the proposals the submission can be a relatively light undertaking or a robust & detailed submission involving additional consultants to provide support for the application.
Throughout the planning application we maintain communication with the local authority overseeing the applications progress. We have developed good working relationships with the local authorities & borough councils across the South East.
Renders
3D renders can be undertaken in circumstances where the design is ambitious, to assist in the understanding of the vision to the local authority & other stake holders.
Building Regulations
Upon receiving planning permission the next step is to prepare drawings suitable for Building Control approval & for perspective contractors to accurately quote from.
Also known as ‘Working drawings’, these drawings provide additional information & detail to meet the requirements of the regulations, allowing contractors to build out the design.
Detailed Design
Detailed design goes beyond the requirements of the building regulations, fully designing where elements start & finish. These considerations & decisions go along way to making a project successful.
Detailed design ensures that the project will be delivered as intended.
